The S.C. House of Representatives approved the redistricting maps Dec. 6, 2021 awarding Horry County House District 61, in the Myrtle Beach and Conway area running along U.S. 501. The once-in-a-decade process is needed to account for the Palmetto State's booming growth — especially in Horry County — so that all of the state's 124 House districts represent roughly 40,000 people after the 2022 election.
